2024 Royal Club of Monteros Awards

The Real Club de Monteros (RCM) recently announced the winners of the 2024 RCM Awards, continuing a tradition begun in 1992 by the then president, Iñigo Moreno de Arteaga, Marquis of Laserna. These awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to hunting and conservation, as well as those who have excelled in the artistic and literary fields related to hunting.

Club de Monteros Award for Hunting Personality

The prestigious "Club de Monteros Award for Hunting Personality" has been awarded to Juan Abelló Gallo. This award recognizes individuals who have become role models in the practice of hunting. Juan Abelló Gallo is not only an outstanding hunter in various forms of big and small game, but has also done commendable work in the promotion and management of the countryside and hunting. His commitment to the conservation of species and environments, as well as his participation in numerous programs and projects, make him worthy of this recognition, now in its thirty-first edition.

Club de Monteros Award for Art and Culture

The "Club de Monteros Award for Art and Culture" was presented to Miguel Carretero Sánchez. This award is given biannually and recognizes those who have dedicated their creative talent to the field of hunting. Miguel Carretero Sánchez, chef and hunter, has succeeded in bringing the excellence of game meat to a discerning public unaware of its benefits through his award-winning restaurant "Santerra" in Madrid. His remarks at the Michelin Star Gala, "The secret is to work on what you've always believed in," reflect his dedication and passion for traditional game cuisine.

Jaime de Foxá Literary Prize

In addition, the winner of the "Jaime de Foxá Literary Award," established in 1996 to recognize the best article on hunting topics published in the national press, has been announced. This year, the award went to Cristina Clemares Pérez-Tabernero for her article "Sueños Traicioneros," published in the Jara y Sedal Magazine in November 2023. Cristina Clemares, a history graduate from the University of Salamanca and a school manager, is passionate about the countryside and hunting and regularly contributes to the magazine, writing opinion pieces on current hunting issues. This award includes a cash prize of three thousand euros and a commemorative Club medal.

Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony took place during the traditional dinner held by the Real Club de Monteros at its headquarters, the Cantoblanco Shooting Club. The winners received a diploma and a bronze sculpture specifically commissioned by sculptor and member José Antonio Lalanda Mejía.

These awards not only celebrate excellence in hunting and conservation, but also highlight the cultural and artistic impact this tradition can have on our society. Since their inception, the Royal Hunting Club Awards have sought to recognize and foster dedication to hunting and nature, promoting values ​​of conservation, respect, and knowledge.
